About Randy

Hi, I’m Randy! I teach voice, piano, guitar and ukulele. I graduated from the University of the Arts with a B.M. in Vocal Performance and a minor in Music Education. I’ve been playing music for as long as I can remember, with experience in classical, musical theater, jazz, pop and other styles. I’m also a songwriter and producer, and I encourage my students to explore their own creativity.

My goal is to help each student build a love for music, along with the proper technique to go with it. I believe music is one of the incredible joys of being alive, and I hope to remove any feelings of intimidation a student may have about learning.

How I got started

I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember. I have early memories of sitting in the back seat of the car trying to sing along to the radio. Piano followed in second grade. There’s something incredibly special about expressing yourself through music and connecting with others.

What I love to play

Pop, R&B, folk and jazz. I know that’s not narrowing it down, but I really like to mix it up! My friends and family have a huge influence on what I listen to and play, and I have a big soft spot for musical theater.

My advice for beginners

Don’t be too hard on yourself! Everyone starts somewhere, so even when things get difficult, keep pushing and don’t get discouraged. Find what you love about music and keep watering that seed, because it’ll grow into something amazing.

A favorite teaching moment

Seeing students surprise themselves with their talent! It’s easy to get caught up in practicing and not notice how far you’ve come. Seeing their excitement about their growth makes me excited!

An obstacle I overcame

I used to be afraid to write my own music because I worried it wouldn’t be “perfect.” I had teachers who encouraged me to keep writing and helped me along the way, and I found so much freedom and joy in expressing my own musical ideas.

What’s next for me

I hope to record an album of my original music and perform it live with a band. I’d also love to learn lots of other instruments and become proficient on them!
