Shaina Lore
Teaches Piano & Group Music
About Me
I have been playing piano since I was seven years old. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Piano from Westminster Choir College, and have almost 20 years of teaching experience. I have taught students from elementary age through adults, beginner through advanced levels. I have extensive performance experience, performing in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Walt Disney Hall, and the Kimmel Center to name a few. I also am a professional accompanist, having accompanied many different ensembles and soloists in many different genres of music.
My teaching is very student-centered, and catered to their individual goals. I aim to give students a solid foundation with music so they can achieve their musical goals. Some of my students have gone on to perform in local bands, recitals, compose their own music, and become music majors in college.

When did you start playing music, what brought you to it?
My love of music started very young. I was constantly listening to music and singing all the time. I always loved seeing people play piano, and I always passed by the player pianos in the mall and wanted to run over to them and play them. I begged for lessons, and eventually, I got to start when I was seven! I’ve been playing non-stop ever since!
What other instruments, aside from the ones you teach, have you played before?
I’ve been singing all of my life. I also dabbled a little bit with guitar, and played clarinet from elementary school through my senior year of high school.
What style(s) of music do you like to play the most? Why?
Though I’m classically trained, I also like to play other genres such as rock, new age, pop, and alternative. I like to play just about anything.
What are some of your favorite teaching moments?
My favorite teaching moments are when a student finds a piece they love and they do not want to stop playing it. It is also rewarding to see a student achieving a bucket list piece that they have always wanted to play!
What advice could you give to someone who has just begun learning music?
Enjoy the process! Learning music is like learning a new language, and it takes time and dedication. But once you get through the hard part, the work pays off, and you will be able to play whatever you love for the rest of your life.
What are some musical goals you hope to achieve?
I hope to continue teaching and inspiring students to pursue their own musical journeys. I also hope to continue performing in several different capacities. I also am working on composing more music, and hope to share some of my work in the future.
What is a musical obstacle that you remember overcoming? How did you overcome it?
I struggled a lot with performance anxiety when I was younger. It took me a long while before I figured out the strategy that worked for me to overcome it. The key was to practice my piece a lot until I had it down cold, and to practice performing. Also, performing more really helped! It gave me the confidence to keep on playing and not worry about perfection, but to just be myself for the audience and always just do my best.
