About Me

My name is Kyle Tither. I have studied at Temple University on Jazz Double Bass as well as classical Trombone. I have performed and continue to perform all over the city of Philadelphia and surrounding areas. I primarily play jazz bass and perform in many different settings from duo to Big-Band and everything in between.

I like to focus lessons on teaching students how to teach themselves. I focus on teaching the foundational techniques and exercises to give the student the ability to learn any music they desire. The technical foundation is where becoming the greatest musician begins.

When did you start playing music, what brought you to it?

I started playing when I got my first guitar in he fourth grade. I remember my neighbor had a guitar. He would just strum random things, but for some reason that still drew me to music.

What are some musical goals you hope to achieve?

I just hope to respect the music and make it the best that I can always.

What style(s) of music do you like to play the most? Why?

Jazz, Indie-Rock, Punk, New-Wave, R&B. All genres have their own sound and each instrument has a different role in their respective genre. I like to explore those differences.

What advice could you give to someone who has just begun learning music?

Listen to a lot of different types of music, and learn to play what you love.

What are some of your favorite teaching moments?

My favorite teaching moments are when everything clicks for the student and they are motivated to learn.

What is a musical obstacle that you remember overcoming? How did you overcome it?

Learning difficult bebop melodies on the double bass. I remember telling my teacher at the time, "This is going to be impossible". All it took was patience and thoughtful practice.
