Shane Morgan
Teaches Voice, Piano, Guitar, & Songwriting
About Me
My name is Shane Morgan. I have been a vocalist since childhood, performing in choirs and ensembles throughout my life where I developed a passion for music. I have studied voice at Temple University under the tutelage of Roberta Knie, and have been playing piano and guitar for many years. I am the front-man of an active band in Philadelphia, performing in and outside of the Pennsylvania area. We have been recognized by WXPN radio as a Best of the Year Local Pick of 2023, and have had our music featured on air. As a private teacher I believe lessons can be the vessel for fostering a close personal relationship with music practice, one where students may flourish. I encourage students to develop their own unique musical style while embracing technical foundations.
"I encourage students to develop their own unique musical style while embracing technical foundations."
When did you start playing music, what brought you to it?
I started singing as a young child in choirs at school, and immediately fell in love with singing and performing. It was a magnetic force in my life.
What other instruments, aside from the ones you teach, have you played before?
Clarinet as a child.
What style(s) of music do you like the most? Why?
Surf rock, new wave, and indie rock. I utilize my technical foundations to support singing solo for my rock band.
What are some of your favorite teaching moments?
When you can see a student firsthand energized and excited by music itself, it moves the soul.
What are some musical goals you hope to achieve?
I hope to continue to expand my stylistic vocal skills through exploring genres like R&B and jazz. Though my foundation is a blend of classical and modern, I would love to further my growth as a singer with more stylistically complex music.
What advice could you give to someone who has just begun learning music?
Always be open to new musical styles, even if it is not something you are accustomed to. When learning something new, embrace your inner critic and take it with a grain of salt.
What is a musical obstacle that you remember overcoming? How did you overcome it?
When I was younger, all I wanted was to sing solo for a modern band, even though my voice wasn't developed enough in its middle range. It took time, patience, and further development in my voice to achieve that musical goal.
