About Me
Hello! I am a professional cellist and a private cello teacher. I started learning the cello at the age of 7, and my love of music led me to earn a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Music at Rowan University. Teaching is a passion of mine, and over the years, I have had the privilege to teach students from ages 7 to students in their 70s! I believe it's never too late to learn an instrument and bring the joy of playing music into your life.
Although classically trained, I enjoy all kinds of music. I am an active musician playing for musicals in theaters throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and also playing for weddings and events. I have even been a part of a pop/RnB band!
"I believe it's never too late to learn an instrument and bring the joy of playing music into your life."
When did you start playing music, what brought you to it?
When I was 3 years old, I had an older sister who began learning the violin, and my parents, who were advocates for the arts, asked me what instrument I wanted to play. I wanted something bigger than the violin because I thought bigger was better. When I first laid eyes on the cello, I was so impressed with its size. It was love at first sight! I immediately pointed at it and said "THAT'S what I want to play." I don't remember this moment as I was only 3 or 4 years old, but my parents love telling me this story. They took what I said seriously and started me with cello lessons when I was 7. I still joke with my sister that I chose the better instrument --not because it's bigger, but because to me it has the most beautiful sound.
What other instruments, aside from the ones you teach, have you played before?
Although cello was my first instrument and continues to be my main instrument, I also played flute and piano!
What style(s) of music do you like to play the most? Why?
I love playing any music that allows me to be expressive. The cello has such a beautiful voice, so I love being able to pour my passion into my music and create something moving! It's so rewarding when people listen to you play and feel the emotions you're creating with your instrument.
What are some of your favorite teaching moments?
Sometimes a student will have a breakthrough moment where something we have been working on for awhile suddenly clicks. It's always gratifying to see their work pay off. I'm always just as excited as they are!
What are some musical goals you hope to achieve?
I hope to continue to grow as a musician since I believe there is no end to learning. I would love to play and perform with more groups in genres outside of classical music. I believe the cello is a very versatile instrument and can be incorporated into many styles of music.
What advice could you give to someone who has just begun learning music?
Many people hope for immediate results, but learning an instrument takes time. Learn to be patient and kind to yourself. With consistent practice, you will get better, so celebrate the small successes and enjoy the process! Also, play confidently even when you don't feel confident! You'll be surprised how much better your playing will sound.
